Contract negotiations

By Ken Colvin

Candidate for Member, Board of Directors; Peninsula Health Care District

This information is provided by the candidate
Representing public interest during contract negotiations.
A state mandidate requires that all hospitals within the state of California meet stringent new seismic safety standards by the year 2008. The present Peninsula Hospital faciity will not comply with the new standards. Studies show that building a new, modern facility is more cost- effective than retro-fitting the present building. The current plan calls for the hospital management group to rebuild the physical plant at NO COST TO THE TAXPAYERS.

The job of the Peninsula Health Care Board will be to make sure that taxpayers are indeed spared any costs of construction and that the plans for the new building will adequately provide for first-class health delivery systems for decades to come.

As a businessman, I will insist on first-quality construction materials and methods and the use of union contractors throughout.

The other important task at hand for this board is to protect the public interest in the matter of land owned by the district that will not be directly involved in this construction project.
