Reduce congestion, expedite the flow of people and valuable resorces, and increase alternative transportation modes. We have to aggressively continue our major transportation projects to alleviate congestion in Milpitas. We must make sure Milpitas pursues all available funding for our projects, and that we stay on track to have them completed expeditiously. This requires diligence, persistence and a good network of professionals as we are in a very competitive Valley. The 237/880 Interchange is the top-ranked program in the County and is critical to Milpitas as it is to Silicon Valley. This will help to move people through Milpitas quicker and reduce the number of cars on our local streets. This deserves our highest priority. The 3 Light Rail Stations planned for Milpitas must be built as soon as possible. When completed it will connect many residents to jobs throughout Silicon Valley, and other important locations such as the airport, downtown San Jose, the Caltrain station, and San Jose State University. It also will further reduce car traffic by transporting thousands of workers to Milpitas's hi-tech companies and many more shoppers to the Great Mall. The Dixon Landing Interchange needs to be expedited to add additional lanes to Highway 880 and to widen the overpass. Many non-residents use our local streets to circumvent the blockage there. However, that creates problems for our local residents and affects the safety of our neighborhoods. This is an important project. There are a number of other traffic remedies we are pursuing as local initiatives which we are planning over the next two years which are designed to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow. |
