Growth and development.By David D. CorteseCandidate for Member, City Council; City of San Jose; District 8 | |

My plan to control future growth and development. We are all very apprehensive about the current rapid rate of development going on in our district. We have been frequently re-assured by city staff that growth has been properly planned, but we must make sure we have the infrastructure to support it adequately. While it is true that housing and jobs are a large part of the success of this area, so are its climate and beauty. There will be a time when we have to say "no more." In recent times we have seen Re-zoning processes and General Plan Amendments that get underway without anyone seeming to know about them until a week or two before the planning commission vote. We need someone in office who keeps the community on top of all significant land use proposals; someone who works tirelessly to defend the bests interests of the majority. One of the quintessential qualities of Evergreen has always been its beautiful foothills. We must keep them free from any further encroachment. Recently the City of San Jose adopted a Greenline to protect our hills from the threat of development. We must hold the line where it is right now. Many longtime Evergreen residents have complained about the diminishing hillside views. The sight lines to the hills from our valley floor must be protected. This is fundamental to Evergreen's quality of life. I remember how important it was to me as a child to have nearby open space in which to hike and play and I want the same for District 8's children, including my own four children, David Jr, Gina, Angela, and Matthew. |
