A respected teacher and community leader, Roger Westrup has been active in area affairs for many years. Roger is a Sacramento native, attended local public schools and graduated from CSU Sacramento. He now teaches computer application courses at a local college, where he also serves as a mentor teacher for his peers. Committed to helping area youth, Roger has been involved with local youth groups and is the former scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 238. In 1999 Roger was recognized for his work with local youth when he received the prestigous Silver Bear Award for meritorious scouting service. Roger has been active in the local PTA and for the last four years has been a member of the North Sacramento School District Board of Trustees. He currently serves as Board President. In addition, he served on the District's Strategic Planning Team and District Information Technology Advisory Committee before being elected to the school board. He has also served on the Sacramento County Office of Education Instructional Materials Legal Compliance Panel and a Sacramento City Unified School District curriculum adoption advisory committee. As a computer analyst for the State of California, Roger has been responsible for managing computer networks in various parts of the state. He is currently the Information Technology Project Manager for the procurement and contracting office of a large state agency. Prior to working for the state, Roger was a manager for a local bank. An Army veteran, Roger is the recipient of the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the National Defense Service Medal and the Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal. He also received the Bundeswehr Psychologische Verteidigungs Abzeichen im Bronze from the Federal German Armed Forces. Roger is married to the former Vickie Russell of Folsom, California. They are the parents of five children--Roger Jr., Rebekah, Russell Dietrich, Richard and Roland. Another daughter, Reagan, died in infancy in 1998. In their "spare" time, Roger and the family are active in their church and volunteer as docents at Sutter's Fort State Historic Park in Sacramento. |
