Elected to the NUSD Board in 1996, Doug has lived in Sacramento for most of his 49 years. Doug attended public schools in Sacramento and is a 1969 graduate of El Camino High School in Sacramento. Doug received his Bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of California, Davis in 1973. For more than 27 years, Doug has worked for the State of California, primarily with the Department of Social Services. He is currently the Chief Financial Officer for this $13 billion public agency. During his career, Doug has worked on major issues for welfare, child protective services, child support, adult protective services, disability programs, adoptions and foster care. Doug currently oversees a staff of 50 professionals and has responsibility for preparing the annual budget, allocating billions of dollars to county welfare departments, and the development of more than 800 contracts annually. Doug's interests on the NUSD Board include improving the performance of all students, ensuring that schools are built and maintained to meet the growing demands of the district, and developing sound educational policies. Doug has been board president and served on the facilities committee. Doug was the Board's representative on the Surplus Property Committee and was instrumental in selling the school property located at Truxel Road and Bannon Creek to the City of Sacramento. The land will be the site of the new Natomas Community Center and Library, now under construction. Currently, Doug is on the District policy committee and serves on the Sacramento County School Board Association. In March 1998, Doug received the Master of Boardsmanship Award from the California School Boards Association. Doug has lived in Natomas since 1993 and is married to Lori, a resident of Natomas since 1984. They are the proud parents of Michaela, who will start her school career in 2003.
