On my website, you'll find a short resume summarizing my activities over the past 25 years, along with a synopsis of my educational background and publications. Also included is a list including some of my endorsements. I am particularly grateful to have the backing of the Honorable William P. Hopkins, the Superior Court Judge who is retiring from Office #7 - the seat I am seeking to fill in the November 7 election. Judge Hopkins is a steady and dignified jurist who sat on the Municipal and Superior Court bench in Orange County for many years, and it is a great honor to have his support.

As you will see, I am also law enforcement's choice for Judge in the race for Office #7. I have the support of local police associations and police officers from all over California. I am also very proud to have the support of Crime Victims United of California - which represents some of the people most affected by how our justice system operates. That organization is full of wonderful people whose interests and concerns I will always consider and protect during my service on the bench.

I am also endorsed by chiefs of police, rank-and-file prosecutors, and the former Chief Assistant District Attorney of Orange County, Devallis Rutledge. Even leaders from both political parties have been willing to endorse my campaign for Judge because they know from my record of service as a Senior Prosecutor and Deputy Attorney General of California that I will be fair in how I administer justice.

My wife, Marcy, and I have been married for 23 years, and she and I are raising our four children in Anaheim. With children in the house from age 5 to 18, we have every reason to share your concerns about the safety of our neighborhoods. As your judge, I will do all within my power to make certain members of criminal street gangs and others who commit violent crimes receive the justice they have earned. But I will also be careful in dealing with people, helping those who can be helped and implementing programs which encourage rehabilitation. In either case, where damages to person or property occur, you can be sure I will require restitution be made, and defendants will be required to take the steps necessary to prove they can contribute something positive to society in the future. In any case, your safety and the safety of our communities will remain my paramount concern.

I not only care greatly for public safety, I care deeply for our children and families. That's why I spent more than four years arguing in courts from Orange County to the United States Supreme Court in Washington, D.C., in a case called In re Feiock (1989) 215 Cal.App.3d 141, which ultimately made it possible for single parents to more effectively enforce child support awards.

During the past nine years, I have been a Professor at four local law schools teaching the law. And as a Senior Judicial Attorney for the California Court of Appeal, I have spent most of the last three years reviewing the rulings of Superior Court Judges to make sure they follow it. Because of this record of service, you can be sure that, once I am on the bench as a Superior Court Judge, I will be faithful to the law, stay current, and apply it fairly. You can also rest assured that I know the difference between being a Judge and a legislator. I will not legislate from the bench but will apply the law as it comes to me.

I also care very much about efforts currently underway to improve the efficiency and the responsiveness of our courts and would bring substantial administrative skill and experience to that task as well. In the mid 1970s, I served as a member of the House Rules Committee staff in Washington, D.C., and later I spent three years as Assistant Vice President and Branch Manager of Downey Savings and Loan Association in Rolling Hills Estates, California.

In 1988, I was named Attorney of the Year by the Constitutional Rights Foundation of Orange County in recognition of my years serving as a judge for its high school mock trial program, and I continue to work for the youth of our county as Chairman of the Board at Whittier Christian High School in La Habra. I am also serving as Vice Chairman of the 1999 Anaheim Charter Review Commission and remain committed to involvement in the community.

I am proud of my years of public service, and I hope you will help me continue serving the people of our county by electing me to Office #7 of the Superior Court on November 7, 2000.
