I'm running for re-election to the Board of Directors of the Antelope Valley-East Kern Water agency, Division 4, which includes Quartz Hill and parts of the west Antelope Valley.

AVEK is a public agency serving the community and individual needs of the consumer by selling and distributing State water taken from the Aqueduct, treated in one of four water treatment plants, delivered through a system of over 100 miles of mainline, and delivered to the proximity of retail water agencies. These agencies in turn, serve individual consumers, often through a blend of State and well water. As a Director, I am proud of AVEK's accomplishments.

I'm proud that we at AVEK have been able to hold the line on municipal and industrial water rates -- rates that have not increased since 1993.

We have also lowered the tax rate by over two thirds, from 33.2 cents to less than 8 cents per hundred dollars of assessed valuation. AVEK maintains an adequate financial reserve, and through long-term forward planning and good management, we have not, or will not experience the financial problems so many public agencies have experienced, if our present policies continue.
