Generally my political beliefs are Jeffersonian. I favor the minimal government and maximum freedom promoted by his precursor to today's Democratic party. The founders of that party's original philosophies created our Bill of Rights. That gave us the unique liberties we once enjoyed. Ironically, that party now leads the elimination of those rights. I do everything I possibly can to force the return to those original freedoms.

I do, however, stray from my hard line political colleagues in my support of public schools and public transportation (Jefferson, too, promoted the necessity of public education). There are certain enterprises that government can manage better than the private realm. Schools and public transit should fit well there, along with military, police and fire-fighting forces.

Of course there is still room for private versions of all those. Private ones are essential to prevent government monopolies. Government monopolies can be at least as abusive as private ones, and they usually intrude even farther into our lives.

Some of these concepts may seem radical if you are still conditioned to see the world through standardized windows. That was intentional in your training from an early age. If you can break free from the constrictions in perspective -- made to shelter children, as well as to indoctrinate loyal soldiers and workers (I was both) -- your view and understanding of how this world really works will expand. That takes more courage than you might think.
