Born in New Jersey. Education: B.A. - Columbia University (Phi Beta Kappa); M.D. - Columbia University (Alpha Omega Alpha honor society). Residency/fellowship at Columbia and Albert Einstein medical colleges. Certified in Internal Medicine and Hematology. Occupation: Academic medicine. Faculty positions at Albert Einstein, Cornell, and UCSF medical colleges. Served as Professor and Vice Chair of the Department of Laboratory Medicine at UCSF and Chief of Laboratory Medicine at San Francisco General Hospital. Currently Professor Emeritus, Department of Laboratory Medicine, UCSF School of Medicine. Military service: Lieutenant-Commander, US Navy Medical Corps; Active duty 2 years, Ready Reserves 7 years. Past Public Service: Upper El Toyonal Neighborhood Watch. I formed this group in 1987 and served as Coordinator until 1999. Initially we focused on crime prevention, but the organization soon expanded in size to ~150 families and in scope to emphasize home safety and disaster preparedness. Member, Orinda Disaster Council. Member, Orinda Crime Prevention Committee. Current Public Service: Treasurer, Rescue One Foundation. This non-profit organization supports the Moraga-Orinda Fire District's paramedic service through voluntary contributions. Member, Moraga-Orinda Fire District's Volunteer Emergency Communication Service (CS 145); participant in the annual multi-agency wildland firefighting exercises. Emergency Coordinator for Orinda, Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (RACES/ARES). Member, Orinda Fire Safe Citizens Committee. Chairholder of the hematology section of NCCLS, the organization responsible for setting national and international standards for medical laboratory testing. |
