As 5 million people are predicted to move into the Central Valley in the next 20 years, the continued deterioration of water quality in the Delta will happen without a comprehensive program to address the problem.I was on the board when the district re-negotiated its contract for supply from the CVP. This was the first new agreement under the CVPIA and provided a drought supply that was previously not available. Also, I provided input and leadership necessary to complete the district 50 year water supply plan to further implement the CVP supply by acquiring water called "transfers" to help out future growth and drought scenarios. We are not finished but we in as good, if not better, shape than most districts in this state. In terms of handling the expected population growth in our district, I have supported the district's heavy involvement in the Cal Fed program. Our district was instrumental in getting Delta water quality as a key element in Cal Fed. |
