Candidate for
Governing Board Member; Mount Diablo Unified School District

I have been on the School Board for five years now. We have done some wonderful things with the parents, students, teachers, and school staffs since I have been on the Board. We have successfully implemented 20 to 1 class size reduction in K-3rd grade. We have opened a new middle school in Pleasant Hill. We have started a trend of communicating better with the parents of our district. We have hired a new superintendent to take us into the new millennium and he is doing a better job than could have been expected. Our Board is the best School Board that I have ever seen, and although we don't always agree, we have worked well as a team and have been able to work very well together and very well with staff. We have begun the process of establishing some real school to career curriculum for the district in the K-12th grade. With this new curriculum in place, we will be able to successfully address the educational needs of all students, not just those who are going to college. We have become much more aware of just how important all of our employees are to our district and we have begun to build better relationships with all of our employees.

It's been a great five years on the Board. A lot has been done, and a lot has been started that needs to be finished. It's been an honor to serve as your Board member for these five years, and I would be honored to serve another term. Another term would give me the chance to continue some of the great work that we have started.

I started in this district in 1971 in 3rd grade. I have been interested in the well being of this district ever since. My daughter is in kindergarten in the district, and many of the friends that I went through school with have their children in our district. I'm deeply rooted in our community and I will be for many years to come. Together we have done many great things here. Together we can do many more great things.
