Dan & Judy have lived in Walnut for 27 years. All three children (Kelly, Mark & Carri) graduated from Walnut High School. Dan has a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from Cal Poly University, Pomona, and an Masters in Business Administration from Los Angeles State University. Dan started working for the Southern California Gas Company in 1965, rose to the position of Engineering Analysis Center Manager and retired in 1995 to begin a new career as a Gas Industry Consultant. While at The Gas Company, Dan was an active member of the American Gas Association, serving as the Chairman of the Task Committee on Plastic Materials and receivng the Association's Award of Merit. Dan has served as a volunteer for a number of school, church and civic non-profit organizations since the early 70's. o Presenting Team Couple and Executive Couple for Worldwide Marriage Encounter; an organization designed to teach a technique of communications to married couples. Their responsibility included expansion and training of volunteers in various parts of the United States and in the Philippines. o Coach and manager for various youth sports teams such as: boy's baseball, boy's soccer, girl's softball and girl's basketball. o Member of the Papal Motorcade task force for the 1987 Pope's visit to Los Angeles. o Co-chair for the 1987 and the 1988 Walnut Family Festivals. o Coordinator of the 1988 and the 1990 Joint Diamond Bar/Walnut high schools Round-Up Dinners. o President the Future Farmers Of America and the Boys Varsity Baseball booster clubs of Walnut High School. o Secretary of the Walnut-Diamond Bar Citizens For Education committee. o Coordinator of Walnut High School's Parents Committee for the 1989 graduation activities. o Coordinator of the city's 1990 Census workshop. o Vice President of Walnut Coordinating Council 1989-91. o Campaign manager for the 1992 election of Councilman Jack Isett. o Co-President of the Walnut Community Coordinating Council from 1992 through 1995, and member of WIN (Walnut Information Network) and CARE (Cultural Awareness and Resource Exchange). o Co-chair for the Fourth of July Event of Walnut”¦s 40th Anniversary 1999 Celebration Year. o Neighborhood Watch Captain. o Participant in the Chinese American Association of Walnut's 1999 Dragon Boat Race entry. In 1989, Dan was elected to a two-year term as Vice President for the College of Engineering on Cal Poly's Alumni Association's Board of Directors. In 1989, Dan was also appointed to the Alumni's Executive Board. Dan & Judy were named 1989 "Volunteers Of The Year" by the Walnut Valley Chamber of Commerce, receiving a Commendation from L.A. County Supervisor, Pete Schabarum; a Resolution from the California State Assembly and a Certificate of Recognition from the United States Congress. Dan & Judy were also honored by their city by being named as "Grand Marshals" for the 1989 Walnut Family Festival. Dan served as a member of the Walnut Planning Commission, from December 1992 to December 1998, serving two terms as chairman. As Chairman, Dan initiated and guided the development of Walnut's Neighborhood Preservation Ordinance. In December 1998, Dan was appointed as Walnut City Councilman, filling the seat vacated by Mr. Bob Pocheco, who was elected to the California State Assembly. Since his appointment, Councilman Marostica has: o Approved measures completing construction of the Walnut Senior Center. o Graduate of the L.A. County Sheriff Department”¦s 7th City Council Basic Academy. o Signatory to lawsuit stopping Lanterman expansion. o Testified before West Covina Council against higher water prices for Walnut residents. o Walnut's representative on LA County's Y2K Management Task Force. o Recruited business to locate in Walnut at the International Council of Shopping Centers and the San Gabriel Valley Economic Outlook Conference. o Member of City of Walnut's delegation to prevent tranfer of forensic patients to Lanterman State Hospital. o Initiated the Walnut Beautification Committee, a volunteer organization designed to assised Walnut residents who are financially and/or physcially unable to perform major maintenance tasks on their personal homes. |
