Explains How Deborah Will Use Her Experience to Improve Public Safety in our CommunityDeborah has a great deal of experience in the Public Safety Arena. Deborah currently serves on both the San Mateo County Criminal Justice Council and the San Mateo County Domestic Violence Commission, where she is the Chair of the Legislative Subcommittee. Deborah has also spent seven years on a special Advisory Council to the California Department of Corrections. Through this experience, Deborah has come to understand the importance of tough anti-crime laws. One of the most important problems we face today is the problem of juvenile crime. Currently, the population in our juvenile halls is growing. Deborah will work hard to reverse this trend by preventing our children from becoming the criminals of tomorrow. Deborah Wilder is one of the first leaders in our community to recognize that the juvenile justice systems in both San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties have long been ignored. While it is important to pay attention to adult criminals, we need to start solving this problem as well. We need to stop talking and start moving forward with both early intervention programs and alternative sentencing. This will not only reduce the level of juvenile crime today, but by preventing these young offenders from becoming career criminals, we will also reduce the level of adult crime. |
