Ways To Improve Our Public SchoolsAll children deserve a quality education in a safe and nuturing environment. I am dedicated to providing sufficient funding for our schools to invest in new teachers, reduce class size, increase school security, and repair/rebuild deteriorating school buildings. I also support charter schools and home schooling as alternative education choices. I want to reform schools by returning more choices to local school boards, teacher and parents. I want to make sure all teachers are competent to teach and that the good teachers are recognized and rewarded. I want to work with the local PTA officers to motivate and increase parent participation in our schools. I also want to establish educational savings accounts so parents can save money, tax-free, to pay for the schooling and/or tutoring of their kids. The establishment of my special "Congressional Nick All-Star-Awards will recognize students in Congressional District 7 for scholastic achievement and/or community service. This will increase student pride and self-esteem. The establishment of my "Congressional Nick Tech & Career Fairs" will encourage and inspire high school students in the district to develop career goals and objectives. These fairs will showcase the many opportunities available among our local employers in Contra Costa County, Solano County and northern California. |
