Federal Government and Education

Giving federal funding to the states with fewer regulations gets more of the money to the classroom by eliminating administrative paperwork.

Accountability is important. Our schools should have greater authority over their own budgets and teacher hiring. Parents should have alternate choices if their schools are not performing up to standards.

Growth and Traffic Congestion

Planning for growth is primarily the responsibility of local governments. However, the federal government can help. As the third fastest growing metropolis in the country, we need to get a larger share of the federal transportation budget. We need to reduce or eliminate unfunded federal mandates. Cars are our preferred mode of transportation. Recognizing that fact, we need innovative ideas to get cars off the road.

Affordable Health Care and Prescription Drug Benefits

The long-term viability of Medicare is dependent on slowing the growth of health care costs. We can slow escalating health care costs by promoting market competition based on service quality and efficiency.

Our choices should include managed care providers and prescription drug benefits. Also, as an impetus to change, we need a patients' bill of rights that will make health care providers accountable to us.
