Restore local control to parents and our professional teachers.I began my career as a legislative advocate for students and public education in the mid-1970s. I gained a knowledge of public education issues as I fought for school lunch programs, student health screenings and immunization requirements, safe school bus transportation, library materials and computer equipment, and professional staffing. I was retained to advocate for the California Association of School Transportation Officials, the California Media and Library Educators Association, the California School Food Service Association and the California School Nurses Organization. I believe in and fully support the California public education system and will fight for its continued improvement. Where there are excessive or unnecessary state mandates, I will fight to eliminate them and to restore local control. 99 percent of us got to where we are today thanks to public schools. If some of our schools have problems, we need to help them and continue to support them by working together, not by dismantling them. Education should NOT be a partisan issue. America is great because of our free and public school system. As an experienced advocate for public schools, and the parent of two public school kids, I am eager to vote for legislation that I could only lobby for in the past. |
