From Omaha, Nebraska, I came to Stanford in 1948. There I
obtained my B.A. in Economics and MBA. After a short
accounting career, came a 2-year stint in the army. I
returned to California, received more education at San Jose
State, and then began the first of 27 years of teaching and
coaching at James Lick High. I married Geri in 1960, and
later we had daughters, Sheila and Siri, and son, Scott.
While teaching, I started a swim school and later a
telecommunications business. Meanwhile I served as
treasurer in the following: a teachers association (a
mistake), Piedmont Hills Swim Club, Piedmont Hills
Parent-faculty Association, Little League, and Berryessa
Community Center Advisory Council; and as President of these
organizations: Berryessa Citizens Advisory Council, Piedmont Hills Homeowners Association, a Republican group in the North Valley, and Berryessa Little League. I also was on the board of United Neighborhoods and ran a couple of school board elections.
