Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Michael W. "Mike" White

Candidate for
Supervisor; County of Kern; Supervisorial District 4

This information is provided by the candidate

I believe that it is important for the Supervisor of the Fourth District to be in close communication with the outlying parts of the District as well as with the County as a whole. My motto for this campaign and for service as the Supervisor is that I will be "A Voice for the People." My community involvement in Wasco has demonstrated that I believe in being active with others in community life. I've been a supporter for the past 30 years of the Wasco Baseball League for youth 13 to 15 years old. I've been a member of the Wasco Chamber of Commerce, and the Rotary Club of which I was president, and I am a deacon in my church.

My contribution to the civic life of the city has been as a member of the City Council to which I was elected in 1992. I became Mayor in 1997 and am currently the Mayor. This has involved me in the KernCog Board and the Kern County Association of Cities. I was President from 1997-99 of the Association of Cities Allied with Prisons.

I am especially concerned with the problems of the unemployed and those who are underemployed because of lack of training. I believe that we need to lobby the Federal government for additional funds for training in areas such as ours with the high rate of un- and under-employed people who want to be contributing workers in our community.
