Candidate for
Supervisor; County of Humboldt; District 1

• Humboldt County government must balance the needs and resources of all its citizens to achieve and retain healthy communities. This means promoting job growth through "careful development" while still protecting and enhancing the environment. This is only possible if we WORK TOGETHER!! I believe a good leader should seek public input, research the issues and work hard to represent all constituents.

• Tax dollars and water need to be returned to Humboldt County. The state legislators are the key to their return. As First District Harbor Commissioner and as a fishing industry representative, I have worked with our county supervisors and state and federal legislators on a constant basis. The return of our tax dollars and water will require a consistent and energetic presence. My present positive working relationship with our legislators will allow me to communicate freely to help resolve these tough issues.

My wife, Jacque works at the local Social Security office and she often comments to me about the many people from all over the country who have chosen Humboldt County as a place to retire. This tells me that we have something very special here - a quality of life that draws people and that, I believe, is a major force in our local economy. We need to preserve this quality of life, and that will always be important to me.

Good things are happening in this county. The Headwaters controversy has been mostly resolved, harbor development is continuing, unemployment is down and our county schools are doing their best to provide quality education and keep families together. However, we still face difficult decisions with tight budgets, more demand for law enforcement and a backlog of road and other important public works projects.
