Educaional Partnerships with Business and The Community

By Olden P. Henson

Candidate for For Member of City Council; City of Hayward

This information is provided by the candidate
Allowing The City of Hayward, The Hayward Unified School District, The Business Community, and the General community to work together. Improving our schools is critical for the vitality of this City.
I believe that we cannot leave our school disctrict dangling as they attempt to provide the best collective educations possible for our children. This is one city. Full partnerships between the City, the school district, the community, and particularly the business community must be formed without preempting the elected school board. I believe in the tenets of the Concordia theory, which provides public facility usage for the purpose of educating children. The use of city owned buildings, Hayward Area Recreation District facilities, and other facilities can be used after hours to allow access to computers for children who do not have home access. Adopt-A-School programs allow businesses and employees the opportunity to go into those schools, assist the teachers, provide needed equipment become a part of Hayward. I also believe that retirees should be allowed to volunteer and share more of the vast expertise that they have accrued. Children benefit when someone who has lived through many of the experiences that they read about, share information. Our school and children are treasures. We can prepare them for this information-based world rife with technological advances. These policies once implemented, can facilitate a rapid march toward educational excellence.
