I arrived in San Francisco in 1969 at the young age of 22 with only $6 in my pocket, emigrating from Pakistan to the US. The 1960s SF environment opened my mind to the variety of perspectives present in American culture to complement my own. In 1971, I received two master's degrees from UC Davis and by 1972 had begun working abroad to both write papers and engineer models to reduce pollution. I retired after 35 years of service and in 1997 adopted Brisbane as my family's home, where I've been on the planning commission for 17 years. It has been my job to review the Baylands and other development proposals.
