As the son of a schoolteacher and the father of two little girls, I believe all children deserve access to quality public schools. From kindergarten through law school, I have benefited greatly from a public education system with high academic standards. So when my family moved in 2013, we selected San Carlos because of its continuing commitment to public education. I believe we have one of the best school districts on the Peninsula, and I sincerely believe I can help further its success as your board member. First, I want to ensure that San Carlos public schools continue to receive adequate funding. That funding is critical so that all children, my daughters included, experience a well-rounded education that includes both arts and athletics. Second, San Carlos employs approximately 155 teachers. Each one must be offered regular, in-depth training, allowing them to grow as professionals throughout their career. Third, our schools must provide greater technology-based learning so that early on our children develop the tools to succeed in tomorrow's world. Above all, I want to make sure that the San Carlos public schools provide a place where children love learning. This can only be accomplished by a School District that provides our children a safe, open, and expressive learning environment. As a dedicated public servant, I am well-equipped with the leadership and professionalism to achieve these goals. I currently sit as Chair of the San Carlos Parks and Recreation Commission. In this capacity, I work with the City Council and staff to promote and optimize San Carlos parks. Furthermore, I am a board member for the San Mateo County Sheriff's Activities League. The Sheriff's Activities League creates after-school programs to improve participants' self-esteem and confidence by partnering San Mateo County youth with San Mateo County Sheriff's Deputies. Finally, as a Deputy District Attorney for Alameda County, I have a current, hands-on understanding of the challenges faced by today's youth. That experience has taught me how a school district must be prepared and responsive to ensure that what happens outside the classroom does not defeat a student inside the classroom. Therefore, I am asking for your vote on your mail-in ballot before November 3 to ensure that San Carlos continues to create a bright future for all of its children. I have the support of State Senator Jerry Hill, State Assemblymember Kevin Mullin, Congressman Eric Swalwell, San Carlos School Board Trustees Carol Elliott, Kathleen Farley, Seth Rosenblatt, and Adam Rak. As well as San Carlos Vice Mayor Cameron Johnson, along with City Councilmembers Bob Grassilli and Mark Olbert. To see the full list, please visit the Endorsers page.
