I have been studying education since childhood; in fact, I grew up in my mother's preschool in Santa Rosa, and both my parents were teachers. I returned to the world of education as a parent, when my daughter entered kindergarten at Roosevelt Elementary school in Redwood City. Like many other school parents in California, I quickly became immersed in volunteer work at the school, serving on the PTA and Site Council, and running fundraising campaigns to pay for programs the state no longer paid for. I eventually joined the Redwood City Education Foundation and served as President for two years and Chair of the Save Our Schools Music program for an additional two years. I also served on several Redwood School District committees and two parcel tax campaigns, including the recent, successful Measure W. After my daughter, now a college senior, started at Woodside High School, I joined the site council where I still serve. My son, a Kennedy Middle School alumnus, is now a senior at this great high school. Currently I work in the office of development at Stanford University. In this central organization, I manage a group of nine staffers and I develop, implement, and monitor policies and programs focused on reporting to donors about the uses of their gifts of scholarships, fellowships, and professorships. In this role, I work collaboratively with the seven schools on monitoring adherence to and compliance with the university's stated goals and standards. |
