Board Member; Ross Valley School District

Among issues important to me:

1. TEACHING AND LEARNING. In addition to our necessary focus on core curriculum, our community must emphasize the development of the whole child to ensure success as adults. We must measure not only skills on standardized tests, but also development of our children as productive members of society: able to make decisions, work on teams, communicate and be good citizens.

• This means: We carefully balance our limited resources to keep class sizes small, provide increased salaries to teachers and staff, and focus on professional development
• This means: We embrace California's recently adopted common core standards.
• This means: We empower our teachers as the most impactful force on our children's learning by providing professional development that supports the integration of 21st century skills with common core standards.
• This means: We provide appropriate and supportive technology to enhance the learning experience and prepare our children for the global marketplace.
• This means: We, as a community, support the measure of our students' success as more than high standardized test scores.

• This means: Difficult decisions are inherent in the job.
• This means: We ensure that our spending is prudent.
• This means: We think creatively about ways to provide more with less.
• This means: The budget process remains transparent and engages and involves the broader community and foundation. Our budget's complexities require a devotion to out-of-the-box thinking to make the most of limited resources.
