DAVID VELA

MONTEBELLO UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT GOVERNING BOARD MEMBER

As a School Board Member and life-long resident of the district, I have placed the needs of students first, not my own. As an Alumnus of Montebello Unified Schools, I have governed through the lens of a former student. I've worked hard to ensure students have access to quality colleges and thriving careers. My priorities will continue to be:

-implementation of a challenging curriculum aligned with common core

-advancing technology in the classroom

-modernizing school campuses

-providing clean and safe schools

-improving sports programs and

-expanding the arts and sciences

During my tenure on the board I have:

-implemented college preparedness programs

-increased state test scores

-improved the district's attendance record to 96%

-increased the graduation rate to 94% and

As a UCLA and Pepperdine Alumnus and current Vice-President of a Public Relations firm I know first hand the importance of our students continuing onto challenging careers. That is why I led the efforts to build our fifth high school, the Applied Technology Center, which focuses on college and career attainment.

Join me in continuing the quest to provide a world-class educational experience for Montebello students.
