Governing Board Member; Compton Unified School District

My name is Diana Padilla. I am a parent and a Special Education Advocate. I have been residing in Compton, CA since 2003. My family relocated from the city of Wilmington, CA. where I was born. I am the first generation born in the U.S. of Mexican immigrant parents. I completed my certification in medical assisting. However, I am currently completing my studies in Child Development at Rio Hondo College in Whittier. My future goal is to complete a Doctorate in Education and/or Law. My husband Abel and I are parents of two wonderful boys and a little princess. Our youngest daughter is eight months old, followed by an eight year old boy. My oldest son is ten years old whom was diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum Disorder at age 3. He has been serviced by the Compton Unified School District since 2008. My personal experience with special needs has been a blessing. I began the journey of advocating for children with special needs, my own included, with the sole intention of making positive changes for all children in this district. I am the former chair for the Compton USD Special Education Advisory Committee, 2012-2014. Compton USD urgently requires transparency, ethics and accountability of all stakeholders across the board. Our children deserve the assurance of a quality public education through positive partnerships and collaborations amongst all stakeholders of this community. The current leadership has turned blind eyes and ears towards the issued affecting our community and fallen in grave violations of educational codes, both state and federal regulations and civil rights neglected by individuals that simply doesn't care. Enough is enough!! The time for change is NOW!!!
