Accountability and TransparencyBy Dennis J. HoffmeyerCandidate for Governing Board Member; Quartz Hill Water District | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
What I stand for when it comes to you the voter. It is a privilege to serve in the capacity as an elected official. I am a proud resident of Quartz Hill and a committed member of the community. Elected Boards can work well together or they can conflict. Either way, ensuring that the best interest of the community is always priority when decisions or choices are made is who I am and what you are asking me to do. All QHWD Board members are elected to listen to you and make the best, most well-informed choices, sometimes quite difficult, to navigate the community through difficult moments like we are experiencing now. Any decisions are made through research, education, transparency, and community input. The voters of California passed Prop 218 in 1996 to ensure that everyone has the capacity to have a voice in what potential changes are proposed in the form of rates or taxes. It will be my and the other Board members job to make sure that an open dialogue exists between the community and the District to both uphold Prop 218 guidelines and to provide a platform for our residents to challenge us and to be heard. We owe it to you. The spirit of governing is to put people first while establishing a mutual respect with the community that is served. Too many times, this bond is broken due to arrogance, self-serving priorities, and an overall sense of entitlement from the office holder. Nothing says "I work for you" more than the ability for all members of the community to have access to all records and decisions from the District, and for Board members to be available to you. The Special Districts Leadership Foundation promotes transparency through a certification program. I will prioritize achieving this certification for the District as one of my initial projects. You will be heard and you will know what we do. |
