Candidate for
State Representative; Pennsylvania State House of Representatives; District 117

My name is Laura Dickson and I'm running for State Representative in parts of Wyoming, Luzerne, and Lackawanna Counties. I was born in Albion, New York to Sue and Leslie Allport and I have 4 wonderful siblings: Marion Allport-Woodworth, James Leslie Allport, Judith Allport-Klatt and Amanda Allport. I met and married James R. Dickson. Jim and I have been married for 34 years and have a daughter Sharon Dickson-Jacoby who is married to Howard Jacoby IV.

I currently hold the office of Auditor in Wyoming County. I have served as county auditor 2010. In 2012, I was appointed to the Executive Board of the Pennsylvania State Association Of County Auditors. I'm also fortunate enough to be chosen as the State Legislative representative for the P.S.A.C.A., attending meeting at the State Capital monthly with other state elected officials to review current laws and make recommendations for changes to County Code.

I've held many management positions in my 27 year career. The most recent position was the Divisional Vice President, for an institutional pharmacy company. As part of that position, I was responsible for over 300 accounts located in 38 states. I supervised a professional staff of 200, an hourly staff of approximately 2000 and a multimillion dollar annual budget. I have also been a small business owner myself, operating 3 fitness centers here in Northeastern Pennsylvania.

I've always had a strong commitment to volunteerism which includes serving as a Jr. Church Teacher, the Chairperson of Youth and Ministry, the Chairperson of Special Programs and Events and a member of the Pastor Parish Committee at East Lemon United Methodist Church where I've been a member since 2000. I also volunteer at the Seven Loaves Soup Kitchen in Tunkhannock Pa. and have been a volunteer at Tyler Hospital and a member of the Wyoming County Kiwanis.

I'm currently also serving as President of The Wyoming County Democratic Women's Society, along with representing the county as a member of the Pennsylvania Federation of Democratic Women. I also work with the Wyoming County Democrat Committee.
