NO TO THE CADIZ CORPORATION'S PROPOSED EAST MOJAVE GROUND WATER PRIVATIZATION AND TRANSFER PROJECT
On August 28, 2014 Ruth Musser-Lopez responded to a Washington D.C. foreign correspondent from France regarding the sustainability of the Cadiz Corporation's proposed water transfer and privatization project that would pipe East Mojave desert ground water to Orange County gated communities. Here are Ruth's answers:
BILLIONS OF GALLONS OF LOST WATER: FRACKING AND HECA
The proposed HECA project and FRACKING are corporate water heists. HECA will use 6.6 million gallons of water daily that could be used for farming in the central valley. Hydraulic fracking uses 160,000 gallons per job, but "job" is not defined. Water becomes a toxic sludge and "trade secrets" keep the public from knowing what's in it. Bore holes provide avenues for oozing into drinking water aquifers.
BONE DRY
I am an archaeologist by training and I am determined and demand to get Sacramento to throw District 16 communities MORE THAN A BONE. We need to get our WATER, COURTHOUSES, SCHOOLS, HIGHWAYS, and JOBS. We, the people of our District have been losing out...We're "bone dry" READ WHY.
