|
Before being elected to the State Assembly, Ian worked both in the private and public sectors. After graduating from college, Ian went to work for the apparel company Hurley International. There, he was the retail marketing manager for the LA/Inland Empire territory. After working for Hurley, he left the private sector to work for the California State Assembly as a Legislative Field Deputy. Ian was elected to the California State Assembly in 2012 less than a month after his 27th birthday, making him the youngest legislator in the state. As a freshman legislator, Ian made headlines by becoming the chairman of the committee on Arts, Entertainment, Sports, Tourism and Internet Media, which handles issues important to our state. In the State Assembly, Ian has been the champion of many issues with one goal in mind; making a difference in people's lives. When it came to our homeless veterans, Ian authored legislation protecting them so they may one day have an opportunity to bring themselves out of homelessness. When it came to our seniors, Ian authored legislation and became the champion for increased unannounced annual inspections of our community care facilities to cut down on abuse. When it came to our children, Ian fought and won an historic increase in arts funding for our schools arts programs so children can continue to be creative and innovative which is something that is vitally important to California's creative economy. Ian's commitment to our community has made him as tireless an advocate for us in Sacramento as he is in the district. One of his proudest accomplishments to date was authoring a resolution to have Whittier Blvd dedicated to Whittier Officers Mike Lane and John Pierce who paid the ultimate price while protecting our community during undercover operations. He has also continued to fight to bring resources back to our community. He has helped schools receive new money for arts programs through grants, as well has fought to secure funding for projects like the Greenway Trail in Whittier so our community can continue to have open space to enjoy the outdoors. Ian is also responsible for hosting one of the largest College and Career fairs in our community for our students. Over the last two years, over 1,600 kids have attended the fair with over 40 of the nation's top colleges and universities in attendance. He has also handed out thousands of dollars in scholarships to help students and families prepare for college. Ian has proven to be a dedicated public servant, serving the needs of his community both in Sacramento, and right here at home. "I am honored and humbled to be your representative for the 57th Assembly District. We have been able to accomplish a lot together, but, there is still much more work to be done. With your support, there is no doubt in my mind that our best days still lie ahead". |
