This is my ballot statement which will be published is the Sonoma County Voter Guide.
My work on the school board is driven by one question: how will this benefit students? Nothing is more important than educating our youth. Our community's success, socially and economically, is defined by how well we do that.
As our economy improved, our board had the opportunity to refocus our efforts. We adopted a new strategic plan. We dovetailed that work with the new state funding formula and its requirements. This was driven by significant and unprecedented staff and community input.
Focused on keeping students in school and learning, we forged deeper and lasting relationships with community organizations, non-profits, SRJC and SSU. Implementing restorative justice principles, we addressed behavioral issues differently and reduced the dropout rate, without sacrificing student or staff safety. We worked to retain arts, music and sports. We retained small class sizes, especially in K-3, where developing the building blocks is critical.
We developed meaningful career technical programs, recognized statewide, for students to explore and pursue after graduation. We have a new program to protect student athletes from dangerous concussions. I am proud to have led the board for the last two years during this period of positive change.
I ask for your continued support and vote.
