LET'S FIX IT!!!!!!!!
- I am a candidate for HMB city council because our current system is broken and I want to help fix it. I love our town, but like many of us, have been frustrated by cumbersome, expensive governance that has primarily succeeded at keeping citizens in the dark, confused and annoyed.
- I bought my first home in Montara in 1990 and opened my family practice in Half Moon Bay on Kelly Street in 1992, moving to Main St. in 1998.
I worked as a volunteer for Rotocare, our free medical clinic, for 20 years. In 2007 I bought my home in downtown Half Moon Bay.
- I am a member of IOOF (the "oddfellows") whose goal is to impart the principles of friendship, love and truth through aiding our community, the less fortunate, the youth, the elderly, the environment and the community at large in every way possible.
- The most important first step is to listen. Practicing medicine for 32 years has taught me that alone I cannot heal the patient. Healing is a collaborative process and takes good intention by doctor and patient both.
- Open and honest communication is imperative, preferably delivered in a civil and respectful way. My practice taught me to ask questions, evaluate options, use science and a little psychology. These are the same skills that I would expect a city council member to have. I am no stranger to regulations and red tape, and understand the challenges and restrictions that can make this job difficult. But I'm a problem solver and I believe our problems are solvable.
- Our city government needs to be fully transparent and open to all opinions and concerns. I intend to employ all the healing principles I know in my work on city council. We must put aside our personal interests and keep our common interest - that of seeing our beautiful town thrive economically, ecologically, spiritually and culturally.
- We are a small town with the potential to become an even greater place for all of us who live here and who love Half Moon Bay.
- Let's do it! Deborah B. Penrose
