Background Information for Tim Gearhart

As a 36 year veteran teacher at all levels of public education, I understand what is needed to support an excellent, well roundid education for our children. As a Board Trustee, I can help guide our District towards that goal.

Our family has lived in Paso Robles for nearly 30 years, and our children have all attended and graduated from Paso Robles schools. Our grandchild attends a nearby District elementary school now. My family has been very active in the town's 4-H program, FFA, and local church activities as well as neighborhood programs and groups.
I have served as a classroom teacher for thirty-six years, fourteen at the K-5 level and twenty-two at the 6-8 and 9-12 levels, including Adult Education. I am an active South Coast Writing Project Fellow at the University of California, where I received two teaching credentials. I also received my Masters degree in Humanities and Education from Azusa Pacific University, and was selected by the president of the California Federation of Teachers to represent California teachers at NCATE reviews of California State University, Bakersfield and Stanford University's educational programs. Also, I was a program advisor/ reviewer for Holt, Rinehart, Winston's recent California adoption of their 6th, 7thand 8th grade Social Studies program and texts. I also taught at the Cal Poly School of Education as lecturer and University Supervisor, and was honored to serve as a Paso Robles School Board Trustee.

WHY I AM RUNNING:

I have dedicated my adult life to teaching and improving education in our community. Serving on the School Board is another step in this process. Also, I am a taxpayer and property owner in my community, and I want our tax money to be spent effectively to support an excellent education for our children. As Trustee, I can help make this happen.

PROBLEMS IN THE DISTRICT:

District Administration should be encouraged and required to present to the Board an organizational structure that meets today's needs. This structure should include modern, up-to-date business practices.

I BELIEVE:
I believe that the future of our nation resides in our students, and that we parents, Board Trustees and community members have a profound responsibility to prepare them for a reality filled with promise and hope.
