Protecting Our Water and Agriculture Agriculture is the foundation of our economy in San Joaquin County. Consequently, it is important that we support the agricultural sectors that create the jobs and products within our valley. There are a variety of issues that challenge the future of our agricultural production. The most important is ensuring that this region has the necessary water to continue to thrive during these difficult economic times. The Bay Delta Conservation Plan or "twin tunnels" is an enormous threat to our quality of life. Government should work to solve problems, which in this case should be to provide additional water for the residents of California. The best ways to accomplish this is through increased storage and desalination facilities. This is especially important because expending billions of taxpayer dollars without a net gain in useable water is money wasted. Water is an extremely precious commodity that affects our future economy and therefore our way of life. Consequently, government should invest in solutions that had better prepare us for the future rather than just sinking us deeper into debt. Fighting Crime to Keep Us Safe I believe public safety is the most important element in our quality of life. Unless we feel safe in our homes and community, it is difficult to pursue our dreams and goals when we do not feel secure. Both during my law enforcement career and as a city council member, I have made every effort to safeguard the residents of the communities in which I served. San Joaquin County is facing enormous challenges imposed by the state through realignment. Sheriff Moore and his department are making every effort to adhere to the state's requirements without jeopardizing public safety. With the support of the Board of Supervisors, they are progressing in making the transition successful. Unfortunately, there will be additional challenges ahead and I want to help the county meets its primary mission of maintaining a safe environment. This includes supporting the district attorney's office, probation department and other public safety agencies within the county. Acting as an Independent Voice for Our County I'm a strong believer in local control. Therefore, I have always viewed issues as a resident as opposed to an elected official. As a member of the Board of Supervisors, I would represent a much larger group of constituents with an expanded number of issues, but I will never abandon my core values and principles for political expediency. San Joaquin County has tremendous potential both in its residents and in natural resources. It is my goal to maximize these resources to improve every individual's quality of life. |
