My Commitment to Delta College

At the age of 23, I made a fresh start when I entered the community college. I was divorced with a young daughter, and had worked for several years in low-paying, dead-end jobs. The community college opened new worlds to me. It sparked my curiosity, rewarded my hard work and recognized my intelligence. Most important to me, I was treated with respect and kindness. Through this experience, I gained confidence and learned to trust in myself and my abilities. It was transformational, and it set my life on a new course.

I want to safeguard this same educational opportunity for others because everyone deserves the chance to develop their full potential. In America, we recognize that talent comes from all corners of society, and we have a tradition of creating second, third and fourth chances, if necessary. Community college plays a vital role in providing opportunity for everyone. I would be honored to play a part in that tradition.
