This information is provided by the candidate |
Awarded the State of California Senate Certificate of Recognition by Senator Joel Anderson in honor of being named "Public Servant of the Month for an outstanding dedication to education over 25 years, a passion for helping students realize their true potential, and exemplary service on the Grossmont Union High School Board."First, I am honored to be a part of the Grossmont Board. In the past 4 years in the face of hard economic times Grossmont made great strides. Test scores are up. Student participation in Career Tech Education is up. And more students are graduating. This is significant because among the one thousand districts in California, Grossmont stands out as a beacon. Second, the modernization taking place on our campuses is phenomenal. Grossmont has built science classrooms, sports facilities, swimming pools, tennis courts, and football fields on almost every campus. We have some of the best campuses in California. Third, the way our district is implementing instructional technology is outstanding--our teachers are enthusiastic. Fourth, Career Tech Education (CTE) is making learning fun and engaging. Fifth, in a 4:1 decision the Grossmont Board has protected the rights of parents to choose the schools their children attend. Sixth, we have a supportive superintendent, a professional staff, dedicated principals of 11 comprehensive high schools, committed teachers, and 22,150 students--who are our responsibility and our legacy. Ten of our eleven schools made significant gains in proficiency. It has been challenging, but It has been an incredible 4 years. There are great opportunities ahead of Grossmont and its students for generations to come |
