Board President Jon Petersen Leads Priority Goals for the School District

As president of the board of trustees for the Escondido Union High School District, I have led the board in establishing the following priority goals for the school district. If re-elected, I pledge to work diligently to achieve these goals during the upcoming school year.

1. Provide a system of instructional alignment, which integrates content standards, curriculum, instructional practices, and assessment.

2. Provide strategic and systemic student support that includes guaranteed and intentional guidance as well as support services focusing on academic, career, and personal development.

3. Enhance the College and Career Ready Culture on each campus.

4. Implement a variety of programs in the Learning Centers, including acceleration and intervention to meet the diverse needs of students.

Provide a Skilled, Caring, and Committed Staff that Collaborates to Support Student Learning Focus Goals:

1. Provide resources and professional development to support teachers in developing a collaborative culture through Professional Learning Communities

2. Teachers, counselors, paraprofessionals, and administrators engage in professional learning to ensure uniform implementation of district- wide initiatives to build capacity for preparing College and Career Ready students as measured by metrics associated with our goals.

3. Ensure that all teachers are highly qualified.

Provide the Best Facilities Focus Goals:

1. Provide optimal learning environments for all students as identified within our Long Range Facilities Master Plan.

2. Create an environment that supports learning within a safe and orderly setting.

Develop Community Connections through Communication, Partnerships, and Shared Community Input Focus Goals:

1. Develop and implement the District Communication strategies.

2. Maintain a strong customer service philosophy throughout the district.

3. Continue meaningful articulation with the elementary district.

4. Optimize parent education and involvement to support student progress in meeting academic benchmarks.

Maximize Student Academic Success through Organizational Alignment Focus Goals:

1. Implement the Energy Conservation Initiative.

2. Maintain a balanced and fiscally responsible operating budget.

3. Increase accountability and control over site expenditures.

4. Conduct long-term financial planning.

5. Provide "position control" structure to ensure accuracy of budget process system.

6. Ensure that the District Technology Use Plan is perfectly aligned to support educational and operational initiatives.

7. Assist the education foundation in raising funds to support the tuition assistance component of MAP.

8. Continue the development of instructional program for Del Lago Academy
