Candidate for
Board Member; Fallbrook Union High School District; Full Term

I am currently a candidate for reelection to the Fallbrook Union High Board of Trustees. I was appointed to that same Board in November of 2013 to serve the last year of a term vacated by a former member. I came to the Board with a varied and strong background to support the District.

Born in Nashville, Tennessee, I lived in a variety of locations throughout the United States during my younger years. After graduating from Garden City High School in New York, I attended Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia, where I received an excellent Liberal Arts education. Also during that period, I excelled in track and field capturing first place in the Mason Dixon Conference mile and the two mile. In 1971 I was inducted into the Roanoke College Athletic Hall of Fame (my youngest son followed in my footsteps and was the CIF Division 3A Cross-Country Champion at Fallbrook Union High School in the mid-80's).

After college I applied for and was accepted in the Officer Candidate Program of the United States Marine Corps and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. Throughout my Marine Corps career I was stationed in a variety of locations to include Vietnam where I served as the Operations Officer of an Air Defense Squadron. For that service I received the Bronze Star Medal with the "V" by the President of the United States. After Vietnam, I served in a variety of locations to include Okinawa, Japan where I was the Commanding Officer of Marine Air Control Squadron-4. During my career in the Corps I also earned a Masters Degree in Administration from Pepperdine University and a Master of Business Administration from National University.

After retiring from the Marine Corps I worked for Hughes Aircraft Company for twenty years as a Senior System Engineer and Member of the Technical Staff until 2002. For three years afterward I was the West Coast Director of Proposals for CACI, a mid-level aerospace company. I still consult in Aerospace marketing and system engineering. I also have been very active in community service throughout the years. As a Rotarian, I have been the Rotary Advisor to the Junior Rotary Club (named INTERACT)at Fallbrook Union High School for the past 10 years, and have also orchestrated Rotary's 4-Way Speech Contest for high school students in San Diego County. I was named the Rotarian of the Year for the Rotary Club of Fallbrook in 2004. I am married to Elizabeth Wiant Goodlake and have two sons who graduated from Fallbrook Union High School. My experience with young people has been extensive having worked with Interactors at the high school,and with young Marines right out of High School, helping them transition into the work world. I've also had the pleasure of working with recent college graduates employed at Hughes. My long -time experience working with students at Fallbrook Union High School in particular gives me a unique insight to the campus which has helped me very much during my one-year stint on the Board of Trustees. My background works well in helping students transition to a college/university or the work world. My aerospace engineering background in particular gives the District insight into 21st century technology and how to infuse contemporary subject matter into the Curriculum. My volunteer work at the high school and my year of service on the Board provides me with a lot of insight into the faculty, children, and District employees. As importantly, I love the Fallbrook Union High School District and have a passion to serve.
