Olga Diaz is the first Latina ever elected to the Escondido City Council. She currently serves as the Deputy Mayor of Escondido. First in her family to attend college, Olga received a BSC in accounting from Santa Clara University. She has worked in the fields of public accounting, data analysis and research and owned a small business for ten years. A bilingual, progressive, Democrat in a largely conservative City, Olga has championed environmental and social justice issues with an academic approach. Olga is passionate about Escondido and dedicated to improving opportunities for local business and community groups. Olga has served on the San Diego Union Tribune Latino Advisory Board and in 2013 was selected by the UT for the Latino Champions Civic Leader Award. Her interest in the Escondido Creek revitalization has spurred a movement among residents to embrace the channelized and neglected creek. Community clean-ups are frequent, trail improvements include lighting and two pocket parks but the goal is to begin creek restoration that will improve water quality and habitat. She currently serves as the Chair of the Escondido Creek Watershed Alliance and is past chair of the San Dieguito River Park Joint Powers Authority. Olga was recently appointed as an alternate to Supervisor Greg Cox on the California Coastal Commission. Olga is married to Escondido Police Lieutenant, Neal Griffin. They have four kids and two Labradors. Learn more about Olga Diaz a http://www.olgadiaz.com |
