As a Trustee of the Oceanside Unified School Board, I promise to:

2. strengthen our Safe Schools environment. Learning cannot take place when students don't feel safe. We must strive to erase bullying, provide safe and secure school grounds, and maintain a safe environment within the classrooms so that no student feels undervalued.

3. work to bring S.T.E.A.M education (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) to all our schools. In the global marketplace the United States is facing stiff competition from other nations; however the world looks to the United States as the standard in technological development. We all know that there has been a shift within the U.S. job market from manufacturing to technology. Public education must meet the challenge of providing graduates who are ready for this evolving work environment. S.T.E.A.M. education provides students with the critical skills necessary for success.

4. work to strengthen community input. Our school district needs the input of parents and taxpayers. While OUSD does reach out to the community for their opinions and ideas on a variety of issues, we must encourage more citizens to participate.

5. work to recruit and retain the highest quality teaching and support staff to benefit all students. There is no better gift to our students than an inspiring, well-trained teacher working in conjunction with dedicated support staff. It is essential that OUSD employs the best, most qualified and dedicated people.
