Candidate for
Board Member; Milpitas Unified School District

Bob Nuņez, Retired Superintendent, has served in public education for 40 years. He has been a classified employee, in a number of different classifications, as well as a certificated employee and an administrator including Superintendent.

His agenda is to improve student achievement and reduce the dropout rate, provide for fiscal stability and accountability, and preserve a safe learning environment.

Mr. Nuņez served as Superintendent of one of the largest school districts in Northern California. During his tenure the district was fiscally solvent and test scores increased. Programs for At-Risk students were added to all high school grade levels. New College bound programs, in partnership with feeder districts and community colleges were also added to the districts' instructional program offerings. Mr. Nuņez has also served on the following committees: Mayor's Gang Task Force; Urban Education Committee for ACSA (Association of California School Administrators); Council of Urban Boards of Education (National School Boards Association); Large Urban School Districts Superintendents Council. Mr. Nuņez believes that involvement in the community is necessary to build a bridge and open up avenues of communication between the School Board and the larger school community.

Mr. Nuņez continues in his commitment to students, parents and the community by serving on the Social Services Advisory Committee of Santa Clara County, the Executive Board of La Raza Roundtable, as Vice-President of NAACP Silicon Valley, and as an Education Advocate/Foster Youth Santa Clara County Juvenile Courts.

Mr. Nuņez received his AA degree in Data Processing from Fullerton Community College; his BA in Business Administration from California State University + Fullerton; his MA in Public Administration from California State University + Long Beach and his EdD/ABD in Educational Administration from United States International University + San Diego.

In his 40 years in public education he has served as Superintendent, Principal, Teacher, Community College Instructor and in a number of classified positions.

The City of Milpitas has become home to Mr. Nuņez. He wants to continue contributing to the success of students in Milpitas by ensuring that they receive a quality high school education and are prepared to enter college or career/technical education programs and go on to be contributing members of their community.
