Political Philosophy for Patricia Midtgaard
Candidate for |
I have been proud to be associated with and employed by a school district that offers a variety of education options for our students. This can be evidenced by several programs:
" The essence of our effort to see that every child has a chance, must be to assure each an equal opportunity, not to become equal, but to become different---to realize whatever unique potential of body, mind and spirit he or she possesses." Anonymous It has been my experience (as a parent, a teacher, a principal, and a board member) that there are many means to an end. The end, of course, must be the development of a child into a young adult who is educated to the highest level possible for that individual and that that education will help sustain him/her in future academic and work-place pursuits. As a GUSD trustee, I feel the responsibility to make sure that our district is providing each student with a basic set of skills that will serve him/her well whether that student chooses to enter the workforce as a carpenter or diesel mechanic or enter college in pursuit of an advanced degree or enter the military with a goal of service and education. Those of us in governance must convey to younger generations that we value their choices and are committed to providing them with a sound education. |
