Questions & Answers

1. What are three top issues facing the Water District and what are some of the solutions that you believe will address the problems?

Combating the drought (both short and long term) using innovation and progressive policies, reevaluating the unfair taxes we pay (for water we do not get) and fairly addressing the homeless encampments along district waterways are among the key issues. See http://www.garyforwater.com/priorities for more information.

2. What experience and training do you have which would help the Water District meet its goals?

I currently serve as President of Purissima Hills Water District and by profession I am a clean technology engineer. The board need technology perspective (as well as a business professional), something that I uniquely have. See http://www.garyforwater.com/prior_experience for more information.

3. How will you balance your constituents' needs and interests with residential, agricultural and business needs of the entire county while safeguarding the environment?

The Purissima Hills Water District, while I was President achieved internal cost savings to pay for improvements and conservation measures, without passing on the cost to the ratepayers. My leadership held the district to the same accountability standards to reuse and recycle responsibly as ratepayers.

4. What is your evaluation of the financial condition of the Water District and how would you ensure that maintenance of infrastructure remains a District priority?

Reexamining the finances of the district is very important to me. I believe we should be investing increasingly more into district infrastructure.

At the Purissima Hills Water District (where I serve as President) our water wholesaler upgraded, at the cost of $2.4b, its seismic readiness as well as added resiliency to the delivery system. The Santa Clara Valley Water District has not done the same. This is especially true with Anderson and Calero dams. Because the Santa Clara Valley Water District has NOT done their seismic upgrades we can't even fill the dams if it rains. This must be fixed.
