Listen to the concern's of our local communitiesBy Gary KremenCandidate for Director; Santa Clara Valley Water District; Division 7 | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
The various communities of district 7 have unique concerns that the district has not fully addressed; I will work tirelessly to represent the concerns of my constituents.PALO ALTO AND EAST PALO ALTO Palo Alto is at continued great risk of flooding especially around the Pope-Chaucer bridge area as well as tidal flooding from the Bay. However there is been NO construction to fix issues with The Creek since the devastating 1998 flood! It almost happened again in 2012. The same is true of tidal floods. East Palo Alto has more than property at risk, due to parts of it being underwater: lives are at risk in this social justice and environmental racism issue. LOS ALTOS The District wanted to place a huge flood retention tank under Blach Intermediate School soccer field. The did not care about the effects on the students and on future school activities. The Water District arrogantly offered only minimal benefits for this intrusion into the school property. The School Board voted down the proposal 5-0. Independent engineering analysis indicated there was no need for the project in the first place. MOUNTAIN VIEW The Cuesta Park Annex flood detention basin (part of the Permanente Creek flood protection) was a great example of the District not listening to tax payers. The Water District spend $20m already on a project that has not even started. "The Water District showed incompetence including multiple mistakes and someone should be held accountable." - Mountain View Former Mayor. LOS ALTOS HILLS The local Water District was unable to get even a couple of thousand dollar of grants (in the tens of millions allocated for these sort of projects) for the local creeks such as Matadero Creek. OTHERS CUSTOMERS OF THE DISTRICT Many customers of the District, including the largest, feel the District is totally unresponsive to even basic information requests. To quote: "We are one of the top three customers of the Santa Clara Valley Water District. We can't even get call returned concerning tours of the public facilities." |
