Born in Indio, Troy was raised in a family that espoused the virtues of hard work, education and service to others. Upon graduation from Indio High School, he continued his education and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science from Cal State Northridge. In 2002, he received a Master's Degree in Urban Planning from UCLA. His years away from the Coachella Valley were not solely focused on education. Troy combined valuable work experience with purpose and commitment to return home and apply his experiences for community benefit. As an educator in the Los Angeles Unified School District, at schools of privilege and disadvantage, he was exposed to the vast discrepancies in educational and economic resources for our youth. This inspired his work with disadvantaged youth and the development of academic advancement programs. Troy's work with the City of Carson served as catalyst for the profound belief that healthy, vibrant and sustainable cities require sound and prudent economic development plans and strategies. Over the past twelve years, his career experience in both the private and public sectors includes small and large development companies such as D.L. Freeman and Lennar Homes. Also, he has worked for the cities of Desert Hot Springs and Indio in their Redevelopment/Economic Development Agencies. In fact, he was a member of the former Indio staff team which developed the Economic Development strategies that have successfully brought Home Depot, Target, Walmart and several other companies to the I-10 Corridor. Currently, Troy is employed by the Desert Recreation District as a project manager for the capital improvement programs. Troy's personal life is blessed with a beautiful wife Latanya, who is a teacher with Desert Sands Unified School District and, three beautiful children; daughter Atiya, a student at Hampton University (Virginia), son Jah, a student at Xavier College Prep and his youngest daughter Malia, who will start kindergarten this year. Even with the rigors of raising a family, he continue to serve at; church functions, youth sports coaching and, works with an afterschool enrichment program. |
