A constant increase in the inequality and child poverty tell us more about the source of our educational problems than the uneven quality of testing and curriculum standards. No child left behind was a failure because the failing schools in the impoverished areas did not the support needed to remedy the educational gap between the poor and more affluent district. The Common Core standards were drafted behind the closed doors by academics with ties to testing companies and the test publishers.
The extensive testing will not improve education; we need more funding for health and counseling services, one-to one tutorial services for underperforming students.
The schools have to be more open; We have to be more creative and able to create meaningful partnerships with private businesses, corporations and nonprofit
organizations.
We must stop a pipe to prison practices that benefit the prison industrial complex at the expense at the rest of us.
We are failing our children at all levels. It is up to all of us to change it.
