MSJC Needs to Increase the College Going RateMSJC is an under served college district. It presently ranks sixth from the bottom in the percent of students served per 1,000 adult population. Population within the Inland Empire has grown faster than available state apportionment funding and during the recent economic recession, student workload apportionment was greatly reduced resulting in drastic cuts in available class sections for our students. MSJC is restoring those sections now. As board president, I authored and passed a resolution requiring MSJC to serve +5% enrollments above state funding resulting in access for +500 full time students and maximized existing tax dollars. Currently, I am lobbying for an added metric to the state funding formula to increase growth apportionment for MSJC based upon the college going rate i.e, "participation" rate. If successful, this will increase access for thousands of students in the future. |
