Political Philosophy for Duane A. Dishno
Candidate for |
I am a local resident who has spent my entire adult life as an advocate for kids. They have always been, and remain, my number one priority. I believe we all want the same things for our kids --- excellent teachers, clean and safe campuses, appropriate textbooks and learning materials, and the best technology to help them thrive and become creative, responsible, critical thinkers prepared for college or a career. I am a fiscal conservative and proud that the school district has maintained financial stability and a positive cash flow without substantial budget cuts or employee salary reductions. It is critical that we make certain our precious tax dollars are used to maintain a rich environment that prepares our students for citizenship and the world of work. We must keep in mind that education is based on effective teaching; that without staff cooperation and good morale, educational programs will suffer. A positive school climate can best be facilitated by open and frequent communications among staff and with parents and community members, by clearly communicating the goals of the District and standards and expectations for all students and employees, and by maintaining mutual trust and respect among the stakeholders. I have a long history of integrity in my past employment and in my current office. I believe in local control and feel that parents and teachers together are in the best position to know what our students require to be successful and how their education should be provided. I make a point of visiting schools to meet with teachers, students, staff, and volunteers about what's working well and what needs attention. I regularly attend student and school programs, and I participate in PTSA --- and I will continue to do so faithfully if re-elected. |
