Political Philosophy for Harold Williams
Candidate for |

|
I'm running for water board because I believe we need someone on the board with the education, work experience and training required to fully understand how affordable clean water is delivered to your home. In 1976, I earned my Master of Science in Civil Engineering & Water Resources from California State University, Long Beach. Since 1980, I have served as Director of Public Works and City Engineer for five local cities including Carson, Hermosa Beach, Gardena, Lawndale and Lynwood. As a former Carson City Councilmember, now serving on the Greater L.A. County Vector Control District Board, I have acquired the skill sets of public service needed to be an effective leader on the water board. I have also served the wider community on the League of California Cities and the South Bay Cities Council of Governments. I will use my experience in the public sector to institute best practices that will guarantee that the water board is serving the public and not just its board members. We should end the practice of personal discretion expenditures and put all expenditures to a vote of the entire board. We should invite full and independent audits and maintain complete transparency in all our actions. We must restore the public's trust in the West Basin Municipal Water District. This agency was won impressive awards for its achievements and commitment to public service. We cannot allow the failings of one man to tarnish the honest work of the many people who have made the West Basin Municipal Water District successful. I'm committed to keeping our water quality pure and protecting our environment. I have served as chair of the City of Carson Environmental Commission and the Environmental Quality Policy Committee of the League of California Cities. As a former member of the Board of Directors of the Carson Chamber of Commerce, I also have a business mindset to keep costs under control. |
