In the Master Plan for Higher Education in California, community colleges were to provide access to higher education for all California Residents regardless of socio-economic status or income in three areas: transfer to baccalaureate colleges, career technical education (vocational education), and lifelong learning. This was a very progressive policy developed during the Governorship of Pat Brown and helped to create the prosperity in California during the 1960's, 70's, and 80's. I am firmly committed to this and to ensuring these principles remain a central focus of Santa Monica College's mission.
I am committed to larger issues of social and economic justice, including a living wage for all employees, equity in hiring and promotion, fostering a welcome and comfortable educational environment, and increasing our sustainability not only on campus, but the wider community at large.
